Using Battery Powered Mobility Aid in the Summertime?

Too hot on a Mobility Scooter? Hot weather can be a stifling reminder that you are not invulnerable to the sun’s heat, as well as the mobility aid equipment that is currently used. Usually, wear and tear can deplete the battery of the electrically powered mobility aid equipment that you use, but the heat can …

What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) represents a significant shift in how disability services are funded and delivered. The NDIS will benefit all Australians in the following ten ways.

It’s a system that spans the entire country. If you or someone you love is born with a handicap or develops one later in life, you and your loved ones are no longer at risk of falling through gaps in Australia’s safety net due to where you live.

With the services and programs they choose, people with disabilities, their families, and carers can participate in the nation’s social, economic, and cultural life.

Families will be able to get support and resources to help them fulfill the needs of a disabled family member, which will help them save money.

Families will have access to support and services to help them handle the demands of a disabled family member, minimizing physical, mental, and financial stress.

The NDIS is predicated on the principle of equality.

Regardless of when and where your disability developed, you will have equal access to existing services.

There will be no assumption that unpaid care will be the norm.

The NDIS, which is modeled after Medicare, will give people with disabilities, as well as their families and carers, the regular care, support, therapy, and equipment they require from a secure and predictable pool of cash.

It emphasizes early intervention and providing support that provides the best long-term results, with the goal of increasing chances for independence and involvement.

Each NDIS plan is tailored to the needs of the individual. Support is provided depending on the preferences of the disabled person and their family. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is fiscally responsible.

It is not assistance, but rather an investment in individual capability that leads to better outcomes for disabled people, their families, and caretakers. The NDIS benefits all Australians because disability can strike anyone at any time.

A more varied and inclusive community would benefit everyone.

Who is eligible for an NDIS support package?

To receive an NDIS support package, you must:

  • Live in an area where the NDIS is available
  • Meet the residency requirements (be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category Visa holder)
  • Meet the disability or early intervention requirements
  • Be under 65 years of age when the access request is made
  • Meet any other conditions relevant to your individual circumstances

You make a request for a support package to the NDIA (the National Disability Insurance Agency). If you’re already receiving government-funded support, you may have automatic access and not need to make a new application. Once you are part of the NDIS, you’re known as a “participant”.

What support can be funded in an NDIS package?

You may be eligible for funding across education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements, and health and wellbeing.

Funding may cover:

  • Daily personal activities
  • Transport to the community, social, economic, and daily life activities
  • Workplace funding to help you get or keep a job in the open or supported labor market
  • Therapeutic supports including behavior support
  • Help with household tasks to maintain your home environment
  • Professional help in arranging aids or equipment assessment, set up and training
  • Home modification design and construction
  • Mobility equipment
  • Vehicle modifications
