Covid-19 has changed the world into drastic measures, and the Delta-Variant is not helping the matter. Due to the plethora of Shutdowns, policed by the state NSW, QLD, and VIC. It is essential for all individuals, especially, seniors to isolate themselves from public gatherings and densely populated locations.
 
Vaccinated Individuals are also required to wear a mask,  to help mandate mutually assured social distancing. Individuals who own a mobility scooter, and are vaccinated, are also required to wear a  mask for the same reason. Due to the after-effects of the COVID-19 condition, many more individuals need assistance in mobility.

Long Term Effects of COVID-19

The long-term symptoms/complications of COVID-19 can vary between the Heart, Lungs, and Brain.
 
Heart – Test taken months after recovering from COVID-19, have shown lasting damage to the vital organ such as the heart. Sometimes causing muscle tissue damage due to the flux of the virus, even in milder cases. This may increase the risk of heart failure and other underlying conditions.
 
Brain – On the Aftermath of COVID-19, the after-effects can cause strokes, seizures, and Guillian-Bare Syndrome. Which is a condition that can prompt temporary paralysis. COVID-19 may even increase the odds of developing Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.
 
Lung – The general type of pneumonia often associated with COVID-19 usually causes long-term damage to the alveoli (air sacs) within the lungs. These resulting scars in the tissue can lead to long-term breathing issues.

Can you use your Mobility Scooter During Lockdown?

Depending on your condition, you might be suitable for a mobility scooter.  A scooter could allay some of your health concerns. You might have wondered whether it’s possible to use a mobility scooter during the lockdown, when everybody is at home, practicing social distancing. Well, the good news is you are able, due to a plethora of reasons. Firstly, if you are using a mobility scooter due to health concerns, then you are eligible for a vaccine.

Secondly, if you are not vaccinated, you can still go out and about, on your mobility scooter for essential things, so as long as you wear a mask and practice social distancing with the rest of the population.

So what are the laws of Isolation? 

There are Government laws in place regarding gatherings, movement, and home confinement during a lockdown. While stringent, it does not mean you have to stay confined in your house for the duration of the lockdown.

You may be able to leave your house under a few exception, those conditions:

  • To go for your daily recommended exercise.
  • As directed by a government agency.
  • To avoid illness, injury, or harm.
  • Both formal and informal shared custody arrangements.
  • Assisting Police in an investigation.
  • School, University, or Childcare. These are only these duties that cannot be accessed online from home.
  • Attending Court.
  • Assisting/caring for or offering support to relatives or close friends.
  • Attending a funeral.
  • Visiting a terminally ill relative.
  • To visit another person’s house. Only a maximum of two people may visit another’s domain.
  • Work-related areas, where you can’t work offsite.
  • Healthcare and Medical Treatment.
  • Accessing or Obtaining essential goods and services.

Luckily, the residents of Queensland, are able to exercise unrestricted freedom to move about and social gatherings, due to the government’s quick response, and the residents’ efforts to adhere to the shutdown. But the fight is not over, there will be more shutdowns in the upcoming future, that’s a given.
